Anthropic announced its acquisition of Stainless, a company that has helped release official Claude API SDKs since the early days. Both companies announced the deal on May 18, 2026.
According to Anthropic, Stainless builds SDKs, CLIs and MCP servers, and hundreds of companies use its tools to connect APIs to applications and agents. Stainless confirmed that its team will join Anthropic following the acquisition and that its hosted products, including the SDK generator, will be gradually wound down.
For Anthropic, the acquisition strengthens the platform infrastructure around Claude and sends a signal to the market: competition now extends beyond models to the infrastructure through which agents access data and external services.
